ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  TennesseeRotarians have a rich history dating back to 1914, only nine years after Paul Harris founded what is now referred to as "ROTARY/One" in Chicago, Illinois in 1905.  The first Rotary Club formed in the Volunteer State was that of Nashville.  Shortly thereafter, the clubs of Memphis and Chattanooga were formed. Then came Knoxville in 1915 and the Rotary Club of Jackson on August 1, 1916.  The Rotary Club of Jackson is only the fifth club chartered in Tennesseeand, today, is the second longest-serving club in District 6760  - middle and west Tennessee, outside metropolitan Memphis.

The club’s first president was Mr. W. C. Fox in 1916, followed shortly thereafter, later in 1916, by Dr. A. B. Dancy.  A full listing of past presidents may be found HERE.  The club’s president today, Mr. Blake Williams, leads one of West Tennessee’s premier service organizations with nearly 140 members who support charitable and service projects across the community and around the world.

PLEASE VISIT & PUBLICIZE THE CLUB’S NEW WEBSITE atwww.JacksonRotaryClub.com for information about the club, its speakers’ calendar, its leadership and its service projects.  We’re eighty-nine years…and growing!

NOTE:This 89th club anniversary could be a wonderful starting point for a feature or profile, interview or other human interest story.  Interesting history is available, as published recently in The Rotarian, the national magazine for U.S.Rotarians.  Please contact Kevin Barron at 731-660-8786 for more information or to arrange for additional documentation.

The Jackson Rotary Club, the oldest in rural West Tennessee, is an organization of business and professional leaders united to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.  The Club focuses on four key areas of service: Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service and International Service.  The Club was formed in August of 1916 as only the fifth Rotary Club in the State of Tennessee and has a long history of service.  The Club meets weekly on Wednesdays at Noon at the Jackson Country Club.  For more information on the JacksonRotary Club visit www.jacksonrotaryclub.com.  For more about Rotary International visit the Rotary International website at www.rotary.info
