By Antoinette Tuscano
Rotary International News

Dollars and some good financial sense are why the Rotary year starts 1 July – at least that’s what the RI auditors said, according to 1912-13 RI President Glenn C. Mead’s report in the September 1913 issue of The Rotarian.

The auditors found that the organization’s affairs had been managed “honestly and carefully.” Still, RI was growing and had recently become an international organization, and its needs were changing.

The secretary and treasurer needed more time to prepare, audit, and check the organization’s financial statements by the end of the calendar year. The auditors recommended that the organization close its financial books for the year on 30 June, which was after the RI Convention. The Board of Directors agreed, and ever since, the Rotary year has begun on 1 July.

Now is the time to join us as a JRC

Paul Harris Fellow

The Board of the Jackson Rotary Club has voted to contribute $10,000.00 toward The Rotary Foundation.  These funds will be used to match personal contributions, so that each contributing Rotarian can have his/her contribution matched dollar-for-dollar, until these resources are gone.

This matching program will enable the recognition of twenty (20) new Jackson Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellows.  Now is the time to act by supporting Our Rotary Foundation.  You never know, you may be the 1,000,000th Paul Harris Fellow or complete our continued effort to remain a 100% PHF Club.

Visit www.rotary.org to learn more about that special recognition or contact Vicki Lake, president.

MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

As of today, no new membership proposals have been approved for publication.

If you would like to propose a new member, visit the new club website and review " Proposing a Candidate" and obtain a copy of the appropriate PDF form.  Refer friends or colleagues considering Rotary to the new  "Becoming a Member"  section of the new website for background, a Q&A, as well as web-based expression of interest form.  Also, if you have specific questions or comments about proposed new members, contact Secretary Tom Aud (425-8600) or Assistant Secretary Kevin Barron (660-8786).  Thank you.
