HISTORY OF THE4-WAY TEST
Past RI President
Herbert J. Taylor
Long before recent national political and corporate ethical crises, and from the earliest days of our organization, Rotarians were concerned with exemplifying and promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives. One of the world's most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is The 4-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor (pictured) when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. Learn more here ...

Building Bridges in Jamaica
A Medical and Dental Mission of District 6760
The Lexington Rotary Club has partnered with the Rotary Club of North Kansas City, Missouri and the Rotary Clubs of North St. Andrew, Jamaica and Ocho Rios, Jamaica in providing free medical and dental clinics to the people of Jamaica for the past seven years. This year's group included 43 total participants with 11 representing District 6760. Clinics were held February 11-20, 2006 at 5 locations in St. Mary Parish and 1 location in North Kingston. Over 2,700 patients were served in all areas with the number of prescriptions totaling 6,688. Next year's mission is scheduled for February 10-19, 2007.
The name "Building Bridges" came about as a result of a commitment by the team several years ago to use the medical and dental part of the mission to build lasting bridges of friendship and love with the people of Jamaica. Special thanks go out to the Jackson Old Hickory Rotary Club and the White House Rotary Club for their continued support of the team. If your club would like to have a program or consider sponsoring this mission as your World Community Service Project contact Dan Perky at perkylaw@charter.net or 731-845-6100.

ANNUAL GIVING
District Committee Report
Suzie Lindsey
Committee Chair
As successful marathon runners approach the three-quarter mark of the race, they will be preparing their minds and bodies for the upcoming push to the finish. So, we are with the Annual Giving Campaign for The Rotary Foundation. It’s been a great race so far. Many clubs in District 6760 were represented at The Rotary Foundation fall seminar and the recent pocket meetings. Officials from Rotary Headquarters were on hand to celebrate with new Paul Harris Fellows, multiple level Paul Harris Fellows and Major Donor Bob McLean, at a well-attended banquet in Murfreesboro.
This year, Rotarians have become more aware of the "Every Rotarian, Every Year" campaign and many have faithfully stepped up to the challenge. At this point of the year, 35 clubs in our District have made donations to the Annual Giving Fund of The Rotary Foundation.
Special recognition goes out to the Rotary Club of Brentwood for becoming a club of 100 percent Paul Harris Fellows! There’s still time for your club to join the race – donations are accepted online at http://www.rotary.org/ or you can download a form from that site and mail in your reservation. We can all make a difference in the world – it’s our Foundation – just get involved today.
YOUTH EXCHANGE
District Committee Report
Tommy Martin
Committee Chair
The new year in youth exchange is moving along quickly. District 6760 will have two long term students. Krystin Fields will spend the next school year in France. Krystin is sponsored by the Dickson High Noon Rotary Club and lives in Kingston Springs, Tn. Michelle Branch, Franklin, Tn., will be in Japan for the coming school year. Michelle will be our first student to go to Japan in several years.
At this point it appears that we will host five long term international
students. This is a work still in progress. Short term exchange students are still turning in their applications. Applications have been received from seven students thus far. Some have been placed already and the others will be placed within the next two weeks. All students will have an orientation in May to prepare them for their exchanges.
FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE
District Committee Report
Edward Vaughan, Committee Chair
Dana McLendon, FE Coordinator
Up to eight Rotary couples from district 6760 will visit Perth, Western Australia October 21 through October 31, 2006. While in Western Australia, Rotarians from our district will be hosted by fellow Rotarians in their homes. Friendship Exchanges are couples oriented and are self funded by the traveling Rotarians. The emphasis is social and cultural, rather than professional and academic, which are the hallmarks of the Youth, Ambassadorial, and Group Study Exchanges sponsored by Rotary International. An optional "side trip" has been planned for October 13 through 20 in the eastern part of Australia, including Sydney, Ayers Rock ("the out back"), and the Great Barrier Reef. A second optional "side trip" to New Zealand November 1 through November 8th will follow the Western Australia portion of the trip. Friendship Exchange Leaders Dana McLendon (Nashville Downtown) and Mary Huston McLendon have both visited Australia and New Zealand before, and look forward to welcoming district 6760 Rotarians for the trip.
In Feb./ March 2007, a group of Rotarians from Western Australia will reciprocate the visit and be hosted by Rotarians from our district. For more information on the Friendship Exchange, contact Dana McLendon at 615-790-1351 ordcmclendon@aol.com.
